Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has expressed his satisfaction with how his loan spell at Trabzonspor has begun, as the Turkish club continues its impressive form in the Super Lig.
Trabzonspor currently sit second in the league with 23 points, with Onana playing a key role in their recent success. The Cameroonian has featured in six matches, helping secure 13 points in that run and even contributing one assist.
Onana’s performances have earned widespread praise, including from Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, who lauded the goalkeeper’s composure and technical ability with the ball at his feet.
Speaking to Sporx, Onana credited his teammates for helping him execute his playing style effectively.
“As I always say, most of the time it’s my teammates who give me the options when I’m building up play,” Onana explained. “If they help me, the work looks much better.”
The 28-year-old also discussed how he reads the game when under pressure from opponents.
“If I have to create a play, I first analyse the situation are the opponents pressing with their wingers, strikers, or centre-backs? These are the things I need to observe when I have the ball,” he said. “I watch how they move, assess my options, and then make my decision.”
Onana added that receiving praise from Guardiola was particularly meaningful to him.
“Of course, it’s always great to hear such comments from Pep Guardiola. He’s one of the best managers in the history of football,” he said.
The United loanee’s performances in Turkey have sparked optimism that he can regain top form before returning to Old Trafford next season.
