Graham Potter Appointed Sweden National Team Head Coach
2025-10-20

The Swedish Football Association has officially announced the appointment of Graham Potter as the new head coach of the Sweden national team, replacing Jon Dahl Tomasson, who was dismissed following a disappointing 1-0 home defeat to Kosovo.
Potter, formerly in charge of Chelsea, West Ham, and Brighton, has signed a short-term contract that will cover Sweden’s potential World Cup playoff matches in March next year. The agreement will automatically extend if Sweden qualifies for the 2026 World Cup.
“I am very honoured by the task, but also incredibly inspired,” said Potter upon his appointment. “Sweden has fantastic players performing in the world’s best leagues every week. My job is to create the right conditions for the team to perform at the highest level and to lead Sweden to the World Cup next summer.”
The Englishman is no stranger to Swedish football, having previously managed Östersunds FK, where he made a name for himself before moving to the Premier League.
Potter inherits a team struggling in World Cup qualification, with Sweden earning just one point from four matches under Tomasson. They currently sit six points adrift of second place with only two games remaining, leaving their qualification hopes hanging by a thread.
Potter begins his duties immediately as Sweden look to salvage their World Cup campaign.
