Liverpool manager Arne Slot has confirmed that striker Alexander Isak sustained a groin injury during the club’s 5-1 Champions League victory over Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday, October 22.

The win marked a return to form for Liverpool after a run of four consecutive defeats across all competitions. However, the result was overshadowed by Isak’s injury setback.

The 26-year-old British record signing started the match alongside Hugo Ekitike in attack but was substituted at half-time after feeling discomfort.

Speaking to TNT Sports after the game, Slot explained the decision to withdraw the Swedish forward.

“Hugo got a big chance and scored it. Alex had a few opportunities but didn’t manage to score,” Slot said. “He had to go off at half-time because he felt his groin a little bit  that’s a pity.”

Slot expressed frustration at the challenge of managing Isak’s minutes as he continues to build fitness following a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

“It’s such a difficult balance with a player who has been out for three months,” he continued. “You try to bring him back slowly, but people always ask if he can play more or longer.

“We played him for the second time in three days, and unfortunately he had to come off. Let’s hope for the best  it’s not an easy situation to manage when a player has been out for so long.”

Liverpool will now await further assessment to determine the extent of Isak’s injury ahead of their upcoming fixtures.
