Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has laughed off suggestions that he is nearing retirement, insisting he remains fully committed to the club and the game.

The Spaniard, whose current contract with City runs until 2027, has previously hinted that the Premier League champions could be his final job before taking a break from football.

However, speaking ahead of City’s weekend clash with Everton, Guardiola playfully dismissed any idea of stepping away soon.

“Am I ready to take a break? I’ll start thinking about it in 2035,” he said with a smile.

Guardiola went on to explain that his passion for new challenges continues to drive him, adding that change in football comes naturally rather than through forced decisions.

“I think in life it’s best when you constantly have new projects,” he said. “When you’ve done the same thing for many years, you change — we’re not the same as we were 10 or 20 years ago. These things happen naturally.”

He also praised the strong relationship he shares with the Manchester City hierarchy, saying mutual honesty will guide any future decisions about his tenure.

“We’re incredibly honest about it. When the time comes to make the next step for the club or for me, it will happen naturally,” Guardiola explained.
“It’s not just about me — even my assistant coaches have moved on when they felt it was time. Everyone has their own desires and ambitions. But for now,” he added with a grin, “I’m still here in front of you.”
